My Backyard: Hiking King Canyon

King Canyon Saddle, Saguaro National Park West Arizona

Hiking is absolutely one of our favorite things to do and we just happen to live in an area that abounds with endless, amazing hikes.  You can take your pick of low desert cactus hikes, hiking with rolling grassy hills with oak trees or head on up to the pines and aspens, all of this within 2 hours from our house!

This hike is not far from our house, just around 15 minutes and it is fabulous.  Rocky, but well used and loved by folks from all over the world. We always stop and check the register to see where visitors are from, on this day we had: Florida, Washington, Massachusetts, Norway and Germany.

These are Jojoba beans that produce the Jojoba oil that is found in cosmetics, lotions, shampoos and conditioners.  If you click on the link above you will learn how the jojoba bean was a found to be a superior replacement to the endangered sperm whales and the oil that was harvested from them when their numbers were dangerously low because of over-hunting.  Too bad for the whales that this knowledge was found out after-the-fact.  Just a little bit of information I learned from going on a hike.

We took a Monday afternoon my husband was off and headed up to the saddle and watched the sunset and then hiked down in the dark with the full moon rising in the sky by the time we got back down to our car.  An awesome date night!

In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous

Until next time, have a blessed day.
